Regional Research and Cooperative Projects

A smaller but important component of the Outreach Program is to conduct cooperative and regional research both within and beyond the traditional Red Hills region. The goal here is to investigate, through quality and cooperative research, regional issues that are difficult to understand at the smaller, more local scale (e.g., a single site) with a particular emphasis related to fire dependent ecosystems and the species that inhabit them.  Similarly, we aim to integrate knowledge learned in the Red Hills region with that learned in other regions to better inform land management with respect the differences and similarities among regions.  Typically, regional research will require engagement of multiple organizations.  Below is one current regional research project we are currently working on.

Eastern Shore Quail Restoration Project

The Eastern Shore Quail Restoration Project is a new project started in the Fall 2009 dedicated to restoring habitat in the Eastern Shore region of Maryland and the Mid-Atlantic states where bobwhites historically occurred.  This is a cooperative effort with Chino Farms, Chester River Field Research Station, Washington College Center for Environment and Society, Maryland Department of Natural Resources, and numerous private landowners in the Eastern Shore region.

The mission of Tall Timbers Research Station & Land Conservancy is to foster exemplary land stewardship through research, conservation and education.
